TikTok bride knits her own wedding dress in nine months while on the subway

TikTok user Esther Andrews revealed in a recent post that went viral that she knit her own wedding dress while riding the subway in New York. She says the dress took over nine months to knit from four miles of mohair lace yarn and featured layers of ruffles, a tiered skirt and long sleeves. It also featured small knit red tomatoes, to go with the “space pirate meets a tomato patch” wedding theme, noting they chose it “because it was just silly and fun.”

The process of making the dress sure wasn’t easy, and Esther admits she barely completed it in time. “When it came time to sew together I was scared because I could only trust that it would fit — no time to go back,” she wrote. “Thankfully it was ok so I could add the little tomatoes!”
