Veteran news anchor Chris Wallace revealed that he's leaving CNN after three years to focus on an independent streaming platform during an exclusive interview with the Daily Beast on Monday (November 11).
Wallace, 77, joined CNN as part of a three-year contract in December 2021, leaving his longtime gig on FOX News Sunday.
“This is the first time in 55 years I’ve been between jobs. I am actually excited and liberated by that," Wallace said.
CNN chief executive Mark Thompson confirmed Wallace's departure in a statement shared on the network's website.
“Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming,” Thompson said. “We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future.”
Wallace was part of CNN's election coverage last week, which may make his departure a surprise, however, many network's align anchor contracts with election cycles in order to prepare for possible adjustments in the following months.
“I have nothing but positive things to say. CNN has been very good to me," Wallace said of his decision to pursue other ventures.
