Hawk Snatches Up Blind, Deaf Poodle, But Dog Is Found Safe 28 Hours Later

When Deborah Falcione watched a hawk snatch her pet poodle Porschia off her back porch, she assumed the worst. She called her friends, and they began to search the area around her Whitehall, Pennsylvania home. After spending hours in the dark, cold weather, they gave up their search.

"I was crying my eyes out. She is my life. My dogs are my life," Falcione told WTAE.

28 hours later, Falcione received a call Banfield Pet Hospital telling her that they found Porschia.

"I said, 'That's impossible!' She could not have survived 28 hours out in the bitter cold weather in ten-degree weather. This is a six-and-a-half pound dog. She's blind. She's deaf. She's 16 years old. I went down there, and sure enough, this is the dog. The old dog with the strongest will to survive," Falcione said.

The hawk dropped Porschia about four blocks from her home. A neighbor found the tiny dog and brought her to the hospital. Miraculously, Porschia did not suffer any broken bones in the fall. Other than being tired and cold, Porschia was fine.

"How she got away, I'll have no idea. How she survived it, I will never know. But I know one thing: By the grace of God, this dog is still alive," Falcione said.
