An employee at a pizza shop in Michigan is being praised for going out of his way to deliver pizza to a man battling cancer. Julie and Rich Morgan used to live in Battle Creek, Michigan and would order a pie from Steve's Pizza every time they got paid.

The Morgans moved to Indianapolis and their payday tradition of ordering pizza came to an end, though they never forgot the memories associated with Steve's Pizza. They planned to return to Battle Creek for a weekend vacation and were looking forward to stopping by their favorite pizza restaurant. Unfortunately, their plans were derailed when Rich became ill and was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had to live at his home under the care of hospice.

In an effort to cheer up the couple, Julie's father reached out to the Steve's Pizza to see if they would send a get-well-soon card. He spoke to one the managers, Dalton Shaffer, who decided to do everything he could to help cheer up the couple. Shaffer asked what kind of pizza they liked and promised to make the 225-mile drive after he closed up for the night.

At 10 p.m. the 18-year-old began his trek and arrived at the Morgans' home around 2:30 a.m. with two 16-inch pepperoni and mushroom pizzas. The family offered to put Shaffer up in a hotel for the night, but the young man declined their offer because he had to get back home to open the pizza joint in a few hours.

“I am beyond overwhelmed by this act of genuine kindness,” Julie Morgan said in a Facebook post. “Dalton brought our family so much joy – and the best pizza in the world – at a really difficult time. While ‘thank you’ hardly seems adequate – from the bottom of my heart, thank you, Dalton from Steve’s Pizza in Battle Creek, MI for making your epic middle of the night pizza delivery!”
